    Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Designer/Technician I to join our Portland team, with the ability to interact with a variety of staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.

    Responsibilities

    Primary responsibilities include generating engineered models for HV & MV substation and battery storage projects by creating, implementing, and supporting drafting / design processes that increase cost savings and efficiencies in pre-construction and construction activities. This individual supports an integrated construction platform strategy for high voltage transmission, and other power projects of any size, to maximize the efficiency of construction projects from the initial concept to facility turnover.

    • Candidate will be responsible for working closely with other engineering, design, estimating, and construction team members to coordinate overall design package and requirements.
    • Provide CADD/Designer support for proposals, estimating, procurement, construction and design change scoping packages in support of the engineering process by generating design content with a focus on value and design optimizations.
    • At the direction of the Lead engineer or Engineer project principle, develops and issues design packages for review and construction, provides technical drafting support in the creation of construction drawing sets, compile engineering data from drawings or field notes, perform arithmetic computations using specified formulas, providing direction and guidance to other drafters and designers, insure design schedules are met including regularly providing project status updates.
    • Candidate will be responsible for performing a broad scope of Designer assignments of moderate difficulty and CADD assignments of high difficulty.
    • Create 2D design control models to create a seamless integration that flows from procurement, to design, thru construction, and project close out that increases efficiencies and productivity.
    • Ensure data quality assurance and maintains a variety of related records, databases & reports.
    • Follow and develop CADD design/drafting standards.
    • May include, but is not limited to, implementing Mortenson BIM/VDC uses: existing conditions modeling, design reviews, 3D visualization, 3D control planning, digital fabrication, and record modeling.

    Qualifications

    • Associates degree wo or more years in the T&D, Utility, EPC or design and construction industry is preferred.
    • Experience creating and analyzing schematics, one lines, wiring diagrams in association with 3D design drawings and models.
    • Associate degree or minimum of two years producing electronic documents for constructio
    • High level of competency with Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, Synchro 4D, Trimble SketchUp, and Bluebeam
    • Proficiency with Autodesk BIM 360 Glue, Civil 3D, Point Layout, Google Earth Pro, and Adobe Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, etc.)
    • Strong verbal and graphic communication ability.
    • Willingness to be given instruction and follow through with production.
    • Self-Starter with the ability to follow through, work independently and within a team.
    • Vigor and desire to learn new processes and technologies.
    • Exceptional ability to analyze and understand results.
    • Attention to detail and high quality professional level final work product.
    • Strong understanding of electrical construction processes.
    • Possess technical knowledge of power engineering design and documentation.
    • Strong knowledge and ability to use computer aided design.
    • Manage and facilitate design coordination cross disciplines.
    • Maintain high level of competency of software through continued use and training.
