    Mortenson's Chicago Office is seeking an Estimator to prepare portions of project estimates on large projects and lead the preparation of estimates on small projects.

    Responsibilities

    KEY RESULT AREAS (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)

     

    Create project estimates

    • Complete quantity takeoffs utilizing estimating software programs for materials, equipment and labor
    • Solicit trade partners to obtain subcontractor and material supplier bids. Prepare vendor proposal comparisons and estimate summary sheets
    • Utilize estimating software programs to organize, sort and price work components
    • Prepare estimate deliverable documents including assumption and clarification documents
    • Participate in value engineering exercises to develop cost savings options
    • Prepare estimates for self-performed work including demolition, concrete, drywall and carpentry work
    • Perform archive filing and historical cost data gathering

    Participation as project team member

    • Participate in site walk thru’s, plan reviews and estimate review meetings
    • Help manage RFI and Addendum logs
    • Provide direction to new Estimators, Engineers and Interns as they join the team

     

    Other duties as assigned, including:

    • Solicit new bidders when needed, and gather necessary documents for inclusion in future projects

    Qualifications

    KEY SKILL REQUIREMENTS

     

    • Detail orientation sufficient to organize and manage multiple project tasks
    • Applicable mathematical skills
    • Familiarity with building/estimating techniques and software: Building Connected, WinEst, On-Screen Takeoff (OST), Assemble, Bluebeam/PDF, Google Earth
    • Proven positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skills
    • Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies

     

    KEY SKILL PREFERENCES

     

    • Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills
    • Open to change based on diverse input and feedback

     

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

     

    • Associate or Bachelor degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Mathematics or equivalent field experience
    • Minimum one year construction operations or field work experience
    • Current driver's license
