    Mortenson is currently seeking a Design Phase Engineer that will provide support to project leadership during the proposal and design phases of our projects.  The Design Phase Engineer works not just with construction operations and design firms, but also contributes significantly to our business development efforts.  The Design Phase Engineer gains broad exposure to estimating, business development, scheduling, virtual design & construction tools, other operating groups, and external design, engineering and trade partners, providing an exceptional foundation for future career growth.



    • Support proposal and project teams in achieving scope and budget alignment, schedule alignment, an integrated team experience, construction readiness, and excellent financial performance. 


    Proposal responsibilities:

    • Assist with proposal management by acting as the hub of communication and organization for the proposal team. Work with multiple design teams, estimating, and leadership in an exciting environment to craft winning proposals that fuel our business.
    • Assist with estimating responsibilities – contact and develop relationships with trade partners, evaluate proposals and risks, and help assemble the proposal price.


    Post award design phase responsibilities:

    • Create and manage project schedules and key milestones, hold team members accountable for reaching set milestones
    • Assist with planning, permitting, and other tasks to ensure our projects are set up for success
    • Assist in the preparation of bid packages, contract manuals, and Subcontract awards to ensure we have the right partners on our team in a fair and timely manner.
    • Work with design teams through the design development process; Identify technical design and specification concerns, escalate as needed to achieve resolution


    Education and Required Skills:


    • Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, or Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, Estimating, or equivalent field
    • Proficiency with CADD software such as AutoCAD or Revit
    • Strong English language and technical writing skills
    • Minimum of 2 year’s relevant industry experience
    • Current driver’s license
