    Summary:

    Mortenson's Strategic Marketing group is looking for an analytical and strategic thinker who has a business mind and a passion for discovering insights that drive results. This individual will be a technical expert in all matters surrounding statistical analysis, data manipulation, interpretation and process automation. You will uncover insights through market research, predictive analyses and data visualization, drive better decision making using different types of statistical modeling techniques, and promote efficiencies in reporting to Business Development, Marketing and Design Phase leadership.

     

    This role is a critical and intergral part of the team and will be responsible for:

    • Researching trends that inform the selection of attractive markets for the Mortenson portfolio
    • Generating insights about target markets/customers that can be used to develop value propositions and sales pitches
    • Understanding Mortenson's existing customers, what they need and desire and how well they are performing in their eyes

     

    Responsibilities

    • Help lead Mortenson’s efforts to develop and apply cutting edge, data driven, analytical solutions to issues facing customers and partners within our diverse operating groups
    • Develop and maintain analytical products for communicating the state of business opportunities to key stakeholders
    • Responsible for secondary research and conducting primary research in the form of surveys, focus groups and interviews
    • Oversight of the organization, completeness and accuracy of Mortenson’s operating group databases
    • Develop an understanding of current data collection needs and determine the best methods and approach for data collection and analysis based on the unique project need
    • Creation and updating of financial analyses for new work acquisition and active projects
    • Prepare financial charts and data graphs as needed for the creation of presentation packages for new opportunities and active project analysis.
    • Creation of basic financial models to project the revenue and cost impact of analysis
    • Clearly communicate results of analysis to non-technical audiences
    • Partners with Managers, Directors, and VP's

    Qualifications

    • Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in converting data into insights
    • Demonstrate a strong ability to analyze the data and create customer insights regarding what the data is telling us - these insights need to be actionable for the internal customers we support

    • Possess active listening skills - the analyst must be fueled by an innate curiosity and enabled by strong written and verbal communications abilities
    • Knowledge of the construction industry key performance measures and revenue drivers preferred
    • A technically-minded individual who is proficient with tools such as Excel, Salesforce, Power BI and SPSS to interrogate numbers; experience coding or writing basic SQL queries preferred
    • Detail-oriented, extremely organized with ability to manage projects from inception through execution
    • Primary market research experience helpful
    • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, particularly for presentations
    • Experience with PowerPoint and data graphics presentation software like Think-cell or Mekko Graphics is preferred
    • Resourceful self-starter, able to take strong initiative, work independently and long hours when needed
    • Expertise in web scraping, parsing existing code and developing ways to increase efficiency and accessing and manipulating data via APIs
    • Familiarity with construction drawings optional but preferred

     

     

    Education and Experience Requirements:

     

    • Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as economics, mathematics, statistics, business or marketing (including coursework in fields such as computer science, science or engineering)
    • 5+ years of relevant research, data analysis and management consulting
    • Experience at a business consulting firm preferred
    • Certified Business Analyst Professional (CBAP) a plus

      

    Amount of Travel: Up to 25%
