    The Big Picture:

    Mortenson's Strategic Marketing group is looking for a Market Intelligence Research Analyst who has a business mind and a real passion for discovering insights that get results. You should possess strong skills in all matters surrounding market research, data analysis, interpretation and synthesis. You will uncover insights through both qualitative and quantitative research, predictive analyses and data visualization. Your work will provide key insights to form marketing, business development, and strategic initiatives.


    What will you be doing?

    • Researching trends that inform the selection of attractive markets for the Mortenson portfolio
    • Generating insights about target markets/customers that can be used to develop value propositions and sales pitches.
    • Understanding Mortenson's many diverse customers, what they need and desire, and how well we are performing in their eyes
    • Help lead Mortenson’s efforts to develop and apply groundbreaking, data driven, analytical solutions to issues facing customers or partners across our many operating groups
    • Develop and maintain analytical products and visualization tools that communicate key market, customer, and business information to both internal and external partners
    • Quantitative Research – identifying and acquiring data of importance to business initiatives and using analysis and statistical modelling to interpret and report valuable conclusions.
    • Qualitative Research – collecting ideas, opinions, likes / dislikes, perceptions, etc. regarding customers and partners though the use of interviews and surveys. Synthesizing and effectively communicating this information and its implications.
    • Creation of basic financial and business models to quantify the value of opportunities.
    • Clearly communicate results of analysis to non-technical audiences
    • Partner with Managers, Directors, and VP's


    How will you succeed?

    • Demonstrate skills, knowledge, and experience in converting data into insights
    • Demonstrate ability to analyze data and craft customer insights regarding what the data is telling us - these insights need to be actionable for the internal customers we support
    • Possess active listening skills - you should be fueled by an innate curiosity and enabled by strong written and verbal communications abilities
    • Strong proficiency in common tools and approaches to collect, analyze, communicate and warehouse information. 
    • True interest in business goals and issues. Strong dream to produce data driven insights that inform business decisions.
    • Strong mathematical and statistical skills. At the same time, strong ability to reach conclusions even without a full/ideal set of data.
    • Organized with ability to manage projects from inception through execution
    • Primary market research experience helpful
    • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
    • Inventive, self-starter, who is able to take strong initiative, work independently, and work long hours when needed
    • 5+ years of relevant research, data analysis and/or management consulting or equivalent experience
    • Amount of travel or this position can be up to 25%


    • Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as economics, finance, mathematics, business or marketing (coursework in computer science and/or social science fields also a plus)
