Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Senior Estimator – Electrical Transmission and Substations with the ability to interact with a variety of staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. The Senior Estimator will provide leadership, coordination, and final preparation of full estimates on self-performed large and complex work projects.

Organization, flexibility, outstanding customer focus and strong communication are critical in performing duties which include, but are not limited to:

• Lead electrical estimating efforts on large and complex projects
• Provide conceptual estimates, detailed estimates, detailed self-perform work estimates and cost models
• Organize, research, and strategically plan for estimate preparation, pricing, scheduling, and final submission to the customer
• Determine which subcontractors to include in bidding process
• Determine pricing to be used in final estimate
• Includes, but not limited to: quantity surveys and cost estimates, vendor and subcontractor proposals, research on tax laws, collective bargaining agreements, permits, etc.
• Write and submit Request for Information
• Interface regularly with team members, owners, and engineers to ensure complete understanding of the project scope
• Ensure that team members, including subcontractors, understand initial project requirements and on-going updates to those requirements
• Other duties, as assigned including

• Research and analyze historical project data for application to current project
• Assist in project scheduling
• Lead team members
• Responsible for the direction, training, mentoring, and management of estimators

Required Skills:

• 6 to 8 years self-perform construction estimating experience  
• 6 years with high voltage 345kv and higher
• Experience estimating self-perform electrical projects including crew compositions and labor productivities
• Experience with self-perform construction of Transmission and Substation 
• Organized and detailed with proven ability to fulfill all responsibilities for multiple, complex projects
• Possess basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices
• Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills
• Proficient with building/estimating techniques and software:  Bid2Win, On-Screen Takeoff (OST), Bluebeam/PDF, Google Earth, Microsoft Project
• Current driver’s license

 Education:

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering or equivalent experience such as working as a journeyman lineman, electrician, or project manager on high voltage projects will also be considered.
