Mortenson is currently seeking an Engineering / Field Intern with the ability to interact with a variety of staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. This position can specialize in a variety of areas including: Project Management, Superintendent, Safety, Scheduling, Electrical, Estimating, Mechanical / Electrical / Plumbing, and Quality Management. Highlights include:



  • Mortenson's zero injury safety requirements
  • Plan and specification content and organization
  • Completing change orders on a construction project
  • Shop drawings, Submittals, and the RFI processes
  • Purchase orders and subcontract agreements
  • Construction sequencing
  • Preconstruction and pre-installation meetings
  • Subcontractor coordination meetings and correspondence
  • Expedition software
  • Preparation and evaluation of bid packages
  • Monitoring subcontractors and material suppliers
  • Material procurement
  • Architect / Owner interaction


Project Assignment:

This internship will be part time at our project located in Manhattan, KS.


 Additional Information:

This will be a part time internship during the school year. It is estimated that the person will work 16-24

hours / week. This position will be for the fall and spring semesters; a summer internship is not

guaranteed. Relocation is not associated with the position.



Required Skills:


    • Currently attending Kansas State University
    • Currently pursuing a four-year degree in Construction Science, Civil Engineering or related field
    • Current driver’s license
    • Reliable transportation
    • Must be able to handle exposure to dirt, heat, noise, dust, and in a trailer office environment
    • Must be able to work part time (16-24 hours / week) during the spring semester

Preferred Skills:

    • Previous related internship experience
    • Detail orientation sufficient to organize and effectively manage multiple tasks
    • Right to work in the U.S. that is not based solely on possession of a student visa or a visa sponsored by a third-party employer
    • Possess basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices
    • Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, and problem-solving skills
    • Proven positive and professional attitude and customer service skills
