Summary: 

Responsible for the drawing preparation, drafting, and design engineering for high voltage substation and transmission projects. Candidate will utilize technical understanding of high voltage design principles to provide design leadership and innovation. They will be responsible for working closely with other engineering, design, estimating, and construction team members to coordinate overall design package and requirements.  They will be responsible for performing a broad scope of Designer assignments of moderate difficulty and CADD assignments of high difficulty.

Responsibilities

  • Works with direction from Engineering Lead
  • Provide CADD/Designer support for proposals, estimating, procurement, construction and design change scoping packages in support of the engineering process
  • The candidate may prepare, provide guidance, or assist in preparing and developing the engineering drawings and deliverables for electric substation projects - including the development of one line and three line diagrams; relay & control schematics and wiring diagrams; control and relaying panel layouts and equipment wiring diagrams; plan, profile and physical electrical and/or civil arrangement drawings, and the overall bill of materials with engineering oversight.
  • Maintains a variety of related records, databases and reports
  • Prepares design packages by developing the design requirements with the engineer and coordinating integration of other design groups input into the final documents
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and Design Phase Managers to successfully deliver design projects
  • Mentor, coach and develop junior team members
  • Ability to revise existing drawings and prepare new drawings of basic components from explicit verbal or written instructions or detailed sketches
  • Advanced understanding of discipline specific technical designs, QA/QC procedures, and engineering policies

 

Qualifications

  • Demonstrates the ability to perform basic designer assignments independently
  • Provide technical drafting support in the creation of construction drawing sets, compile engineering data from drawings or field notes, perform arithmetic computations using specified formulas, providing direction and guidance to other drafters and designers, insure design schedules are met including regularly providing project status updates to Project Engineer
  • Effectively plan, organize, schedule and monitor work activities
  • Thoroughly and accurately develop correspondence, documentation and sketches
  • Learn and follow company and client drawing standards and procedures
  • Be able to manage multiple projects with shifting priorities
  • Knowledge of business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements
  • Can conduct project detailed designs aligned with our customer requirements and Mortenson’s best practice standards
  • Review of CADD work produces a first time review rate of documents at 90% correct
  • Have working knowledge of or are familiar with software packages: AutoCAD, MicroStation, Primtech, Revit, Civil 3-D, Geopak, InRoads. Proven experience in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, Access)

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduate with an Associate’s degree in CADD is preferred, but not required, or two-year technical degree in Engineering Technology or equivalent.
  • Proficient in CADD theories and principles
  • Proficiency in the use of computer-aided design software and MS office
  • Minimum six (6) years related work experience with 2 to 5 years’ experience as a practicing designer/technician
