Mortenson is seeking a Project Manager for their Chicago Operating Group who will provide overall leadership direction to project(s) in the Chicagoland area; including the management of project quality, timeliness, safety, as well as mentoring the project team. The Project Manager will develop and enhance customer relationships by providing excellent service.


Manage the overall financial health of projects

  1. Develop and maintain project financial projections and equipment projections
  2. Determine and allocate project estimate into financial system
  3. Determine cost codes, approve invoices, and make necessary budget management decisions
  4. Provide financials and billings to accounting for timely payment
  5. Create monthly owner billings

Manage subcontracts and suppliers for the project

  1. Oversee budget for and make selections of trade partners and suppliers
  2. Handle billings and contract management, including contract buyouts

Manage Assistant Project Manager(s) and Project Engineer(s)

  1. Provide job assignments and manage career development
  2. Approve time cards for on-site team members
  3. Provide ongoing feedback of work performance

Function as the main point of contact with the owner and on-site representative

  1. Assist with the review of the owner agreement
  2. Resolve site concerns for the owner or representative
  3. Provide frequent interactions and service to build positive relationships and future work opportunities

Manage change orders

  1. Determine when to submit to the owner or on-site representative
    • Obtain the customer/architect’s approval


Other duties as assigned, including:

  1. Maintain schedule and budget until project completion
  2. Provide high level management of quality, risk, safety, and compliance for the project and team members


Required Skills:

  1. Proven ability to fulfill all responsibilities for complex projects
  2. Detail orientation sufficient to organize and manage multiple project tasks
  3. Possess basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices
  4. Microsoft Office, project and pertinent web application skills at an intermediate level
  5. Proven positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skills
  6. Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies

Education and Experience:

  1. Bachelors degree in Construction, Civil, or Architectural Engineering or Construction Management, or equivalent experience
  2. Minimum seven years of construction management or related experience with large projects ($20M+)
  3. Current driver’s license
