Summary:

Mortenson is currently seeking Engineering / Field Interns with the ability to interact with a variety of staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. Mortenson Interns can specialize in a variety of areas including: Project Management, Superintendent, Safety, Scheduling, Electrical, Estimating, Mechanical / Electrical / Plumbing, and Quality Management.

Responsibilities

  • Mortenson's zero injury safety requirements
  • Plan and specification content and organization
  • Completing change orders on a construction project
  • Shop drawings, Submittals, and the RFI processes
  • Purchase orders and subcontract agreements
  • Construction sequencing
  • Preconstruction and pre-installation meetings
  • Subcontractor coordination meetings and correspondence
  • Expedition software
  • Preparation and evaluation of bid packages
  • Monitoring subcontractors and material suppliers
  • Material procurement
  • Architect / Owner interaction  

Project Assignment:

Interns may be placed in one of the following:

  • Civil Operating Group
  • Chicago Office
  • Denver Office
  • Federal Contracting Group
  • High Voltage Transmission Group
  • Milwaukee Office
  • Minneapolis Office
  • National Projects Group
  • Phoenix Office
  • Solar and Emerging Renewables Group
  • Seattle Office
  • Wind Energy Group

 Additional Information:

This is a spring (January through May) 2018 internship. A minimum of 12 weeks is required. Placement will be determined based on the overall needs of the organization.

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate, four – year degree in Construction, Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical, Civil, or Architectural Engineering; Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management or related field
  • Must be willing to be mobile
  • Reliable transportation
  • Current driver’s license
  • Must be able to handle exposure to dirt, heat, noise, dust, and in a trailer office environment

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Previous related internship experience
  • Current undergraduate freshman, sophomore or junior
  • Detail orientation sufficient to organize and effectively manage multiple tasks
  • Right to work in the U.S. that is not based solely on possession of a student visa or a visa sponsored by a third-party employer
  • Possess basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices
  • Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Proven positive and professional attitude and customer service skills
